WhatApp, Meta Platform Inc.’s messaging service, has signed its first ever celebrity endorsement deal with NBA star Giannis Antetokounmpo. The star will promote the popular service, worldwide. WhatsApp recently aired its first ad in the nation in January, during the NFL playoffs. Now, it is increasing its marketing strategy after signing a longterm deal with the star.

According to a report in Bloomberg, in an interview, Antetokounmpo said, “It is an app I use daily.” He also said that at the end of the day he made decisions on what made him happy and how he could help.

WhatsApp is a messaging service that is popular worldwide. It is a free app for messaging as well as video calling. The number of people who use the app around the world are reported to be over 2 billion. It is simple, easy to use and reliable. It is a secure service.

It is the most often used messaging service in India and Brazil. In the U.S., it faces competition with iMessage and Google message. Meta Inc. has roped in the NBA star to level the playing field in the nation.

The NBA star has signed a longterm deal but financial terms were not shared. He will work with executives from WhatsApp on content and events as well as on community outreach. The first collaboration was at the NBA All-Star Game that was held on Sunday evening, at Cleveland.

Antetokounmpo is currently one of the best international players. He has won NBA’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) twice. He lead the Milwaukee Bucks to their first title in 50 years in 2021. He endorses a few other products and his jersey sales were only less than two other legends–LeBron James and Stephen Curry, last season.
