Paul DeJong’s decisive two-run double with two out in the eighth inning rallied the St. Louis Cardinals past the visiting New York Yankees 4-3 Friday.

Nolan Arenado went 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs for the Cardinals, who won their fifth straight and seventh in their past eight games. The Yankees lost for the fourth time in five games.

Cardinals starting pitcher Dakota Hudson allowed three runs on seven hits and two walks in four-plus innings. Andre Pallante (5-4) worked four scoreless innings to earn the victory, and Ryan Helsley closed out the ninth inning for his 10th save.

Yankees starting pitcher Nestor Cortes allowed two runs on one hit and four walks with four strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings. Reliever Clay Holmes (5-3) took the loss after allowing two runs in the eighth inning for his fourth blown save.

The Yankees struck first. DJ LeMahieu led off the game by walking, then he went to third on Matt Carpenter’s hit-and-run single and scored on Josh Donaldson’s double to put New York ahead 1-0.

Hudson escaped further first-inning trouble by getting Andrew Benintendi to hit an inning-ending grounder.

The Cardinals tied the game 1-1 in the bottom of the second. Arenado drew a leadoff walk, DeJong walked with two outs and Yadier Molina hit an RBI single.

Singles by Aaron Judge, Carpenter and Donaldson put the Yankees up 2-1 in the third inning.

Judge hit a leadoff single in the fifth inning, stole second base, moved up on a groundout, and scored on Gleyber Torres’ single to make it 3-1.

The Cardinals cut the lead to 3-2 in the sixth inning. Paul Goldschmidt walked, took second on a wild pitch, advanced to third on Arenado’s single, and scored on Tyler O’Neill’s single.

Benintendi hit a two-out double in the eighth inning and Isiah Kiner-Falefa walked, but Pallante retired Jose Trevino to cap his four-inning performance.

The Cardinals surged ahead 4-3 in the bottom of the inning. With one out, Arenado reached on an infield single. O’Neill drew a two-out walk, and DeJong poked his two-run double into the right field corner.
