The Padres are in agreement on a minor league deal with former World Series MVP and San Diego native Cole Hamels, multiple outlets reported Thursday.

The 39-year-old left-hander hasn’t pitched in the major leagues since 2020, when he lasted just 3 1/3 innings in a start for the Atlanta Braves.

Hamels will earn a base of $2 million if he makes the major league roster, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Hamels is a four-time All-Star. He is 163-122 with a 3.43 ERA in 15 seasons with four teams, most notably the Philadelphia Phillies (2006-15), who drafted him No. 17 overall out of San Diego’s Rancho Bernardo HS in 2002.

He led the Phillies to the 2008 World Series title, going 1-0 with a 2.77 ERA in two starts against the Tampa Bay Rays. Hamels was also the NLCS MVP against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Hamels also made the All-Star team with the Texas Rangers in 2016.
