New York Yankees left-hander Carlos Rodon was activated from the 60-day injured list Friday, ahead of his team debut in the series opener against the visiting Chicago Cubs.

The 30-year-old Rodon joined the Yankees on a six-year, $162 million contract after going 14-8 with a 2.88 ERA in 31 starts for the San Francisco Giants last season. The sixth-place finisher in the National League Cy Young Award voting, Rodon was considered the top pitcher in free agency and the Yankees signed him shortly after retaining captain Aaron Judge.

Rodon strained his forearm in spring training and then compounded the initial injury with back issues. After three rehab starts, the Yankees cleared Rodon for his season debut to give them a second left-handed starter along with Nestor Cortes, currently on the injured list (shoulder). Cortes, 28, was transferred to the 60-day injured list Friday.

In other roster moves Friday, the Yankees placed infielder/outfielder Jake Bauers (left rotator cuff contusion) on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to Thursday, and recalled infielder/outfielder Franchy Cordero from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Bauers, who sustained the injury on a diving attempt in the outfield Wednesday against the Baltimore Orioles, is hitting .224 with seven homers and 19 RBIs in 49 games this season.

The 27-year-old Bauers is in his first season with the Yankees after spending parts of four seasons with the Tampa Bay Rays (2018), Cleveland Guardians (2019, 2021) and Seattle Mariners (2021). In 377 career games, Bauers has hit .214 with 34 homers and 129 RBIs.

Cordero, 28, is hitting .148 with four homers and 11 RBIs in 19 games with the Yankees this season. With the San Diego Padres (2017-19), Kansas City Royals (2020), Boston Red Sox (2021-22) and Yankees, Cordero has a .215 batting average, 25 homers and 85 RBIs.
