Philadelphia Phillies right-handed reliever Corey Knebel has a tear in the shoulder capsule of his pitching arm and will miss the rest of the season, The Athletic reported Sunday.

The Phillies transferred Knebel, who has been on the 15-day injured list since Monday with what was termed a lat strain, to the 60-day injured list on Sunday.

The Athletic report said Knebel plans to travel to Texas to undergo stem-cell treatment in an attempt to avoid surgery.

In other moves by the Phillies, they placed right-handed reliever Seranthony Dominguez on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to Thursday, with right triceps tendinitis. They also promoted right-hander Tyler Cyr from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

The Phillies signed Knebel to a one-year, $10 million deal last December. The 30-year-old is 3-5 with a 3.43 ERA and 12 saves in 46 appearances out of the bullpen this season.

Knebel is in his eighth season, starting his career with the Detroit Tigers (2014), then moving on to the Milwaukee Brewers (2015-20) and Los Angeles Dodgers (2021). In 312 career games (four starts), he has a 13-16 record with a 3.26 ERA and 72 saves.

Dominguez has nine saves this season for the Phillies, who find themselves without their top two closers as they fight for a National League wild-card spot. The 27-year-old is 6-4 with a 1.64 ERA in 46 relief appearances.

Knebel and Dominguez have combined for 21 of the team’s 32 saves this season.

Cyr, 29, is a career minor leaguer looking to make his MLB debut. At Lehigh Valley this season, he is 2-3 with a 2.50 ERA with six saves. He’s appeared in 35 games, striking out 37 over 36 innings.
