Teal Bunbury scored on a penalty kick in the 90th minute for Nashville SC to pull out a 1-1 draw with the host Colorado Rapids on Saturday night at Commerce City, Colo.

Nashville (0-0-2, 2 points) registered its first goal of the season. The late goal put a damper on the home opener for Colorado (0-1-1, 1 point).

Shaq Moore’s header resulted in an own goal when the ball went into the Nashville net in the 47th minute.

The tying goal came after Colorado’s Jonathan Lewis was called for a handball in the penalty area.

Rapids goalkeeper Zack Steffen was credited with one save. Colorado secured the first point under first-year coach Chris Armas.

Nashville goalkeeper Joe Willis stopped two shots.

The sequence that led to the Colorado goal came when the Rapids sent the ball down the right side. Calvin Harris of Colorado saved the ball from going over the end line in what amounted to a crossing pass.

Moore was charging in from the left side and knocked the ball with his head. The ball took one bounce and went into the net two minutes into the second half.

Bunbury had three goals in 20 matches for Nashville last year.

Nashville, which didn’t make a substitution prior to the second half, had the only shot on goal in the first half.

After going ahead, the Rapids threatened about 17 minutes later on Cole Bassett’s shot. With less than 10 minutes to play, Bassett had a chance on a header, but the ball sailed wide.

That was followed by teammate Omir Fernandez putting a shot on goal.

There were 23 fouls called in the match, with 16 on Colorado.
