St. Louis City SC’s Samuel Adeniran answered Christian Arango’s 74th-minute marker Saturday night as host St. Louis drew even with Real Salt Lake 1-1.

On a fast break, Adeniran tied the game in the 79th minute with a left-footed shot that found the top left corner, assisted by Eduard Lowen.

Five minutes before, by way of a Matt Crooks assist, Salt Lake’s Arango tucked his right-footed boot past St. Louis goaltender Roman Bürki and into the bottom right side of the net. It was Arango’s 100th career goal.

Adeniran’s leveler erased a Salt Lake offensive awakening in the second half.

Celio Pompeu’s shot on goal in the 84th minute almost put St. Louis ahead, but it was saved by ?

Real Salt Lake had three corner kicks in the eight minutes of extra time but couldn’t capitalize.

St. Louis City outshot the visitors 8-3 in the first half, including a 3-1 advantage with attempts on target.

Salt Lake’s only shot on goal in the initial 45 minutes and change was Andres Gomez’s boot from the right side of the box, which dribbled into the hands of Burki in the 23rd minute.

That came after a series of St. Louis chances a few minutes earlier. Nokkvi Thorisson and Joao Klauss had shots blocked in the 22nd and 23rd minutes, respectively. Before that, Lowen had a shot from outside the box go high and wide in the 19th minute.

In the third minute of first-half extra time, Aziel Jackson headed a Lowen crosser to the top right corner of the goal, but Salt Lake goaltender Zac MacMath gobbled it up.

Salt Lake went on the offensive to get the second half underway, as Pablo Ruiz and Christian Arango both missed the mark about five minutes in and a Justen Glad header try was blocked in the 52nd minute.

The visitors had two corner kicks in that stretch, including Braian Ojeda’s shot that sailed wide in the 55th minute.

With the draw, Salt Lake ensured that the club still hasn’t lost its first two outings to begin a season in its history.
