The Colorado Rapids traded defender Anthony Markanich to St. Louis City SC on Tuesday for a first-round pick in the 2024 draft and up to $150,000 in General Allocation Money.

The Rapids received $75,000 GAM in the deal and will receive an additional $75,000 if certain performance metrics are met during the 2024 season.

Markanich appeared in 13 MLS matches (six starts) for the Rapids over the past two seasons. He played in 10 matches this season, starting three times. He has not recorded any goal contributions.

“We’re thankful for Anthony’s contributions to the club and wish him all the best in this next chapter of his career,” Colorado Rapids president Padraig Smith said in a news release.

Markanich, 23, was a college star at Northern Illinois and was named first-team All-MAC three times. The Rapids picked him in the first round (26th overall) of the 2022 draft.

“We are pleased to bring Anthony back to the Midwest,” St. Louis City sporting director Lutz Pfannenstiel said in a news release. “He is a hard worker and an aggressive left back, who will bolster our depth at the backline. We are excited to see Anthony continue to develop as a professional with us.”
