The Colorado Rapids announced the extension of Brazilian defender Lucas Esteves’ loan on Friday.

Under the agreement reached with Brazil’s S.E. Palmeiras, Esteves will remain with the MLS club for the rest of the 2022 season. The deal also includes a purchase option for the Rapids.

“Lucas has been a valuable contributor to our team since his arrival so we’re delighted to extend his stay with us through at least the remainder of the season,” Rapids general manager Padraig Smith said in a news release.

Esteves, 22, is in his second season with Colorado since coming aboard midway through the 2021 campaign. He has two goals and three assists in 27 matches (19 starts) in MLS competition.
