Evgenii Dadonov scored twice and the Montreal Canadiens defeated the visiting Winnipeg Jets 4-1 on Tuesday.

Sam Montembault made 25 saves, while Mike Hoffman and Josh Anderson also scored for Montreal.

Montembault was making his fifth straight start for Montreal and has shored up the goaltending position, giving the Canadiens a .925 save percentage or better in each of those starts. This was also the first start during that stretch where the goalie faced less than 38 shots.

Kyle Connor scored for the Jets, who had a three-game win streak come to an end. Connor, even with his goal, finished the night minus-4, in a strong encapsulation of the evening for Winnipeg.

Connor had given the Jets a 1-0 lead at 1:24 of the second period on the power play. The Jets forward drilled a one-timer from the circle for his 200th career NHL goal.

Then Montreal took over.

Dadonov tied the game at 1-1 7:46 into the middle period on his one-timer, this one from a tight angle. It was Dadonov’s third scoring chance of the shift as the Candiens had the Jets hemmed in their own zone on the sequence.

Hoffman gave Montreal a 2-1 lead at 9:28 of the period, sniping a wrist shot over Connor Hellebuyck’s blocker after he was sprung into open space on a pass from Kirby Dach.

Dadonov then made it 3-1 at 13:31 of the second period, cleaning up a rebound after an initial shot by Christian Dvorak that wasn’t held well by Hellebuyck.

Anderson made it 4-1 at 4:19 of the third period when he cleaned up a rebound after an initial wraparound save by Hellebuyck on Dach.

Dach was one of three Canadiens to finish with two assists, joining Dvorak and Justin Barron.

Hellebucyk finished the night with 24 saves on 28 shots.
