Scott Laughton and Noah Cates scored third-period goals and the visiting Philadelphia Flyers edged the Detroit Red Wings 2-1 on Saturday night.

Carter Hart made 30 saves, and the Flyers blocked 31 shots.

Lucas Raymond scored in the final minute for the Red Wings, while Ville Husso made 23 saves.

Detroit had an 11-10 edge in shots on goal in the opening period, but neither side broke through. The Red Wings had the only power play in the period when Rasmus Ristolainen was whistled for interference against Michael Rasmussen.

The officials handed out three penalties at once in the second period, two against Detroit, giving Philadelphia its first power play of the game. However, the deadlock remained.

The Red Wings had the first six shots on goal during the period, but the Flyers dominated the remainder of those 20 minutes. The Flyers got off the next 11 shots on goal until the final seconds, after Philadelphia’s Travis Sanheim was penalized for high sticking David Perron.

Flyers defenseman Ivan Provorov was struck in the left leg while blocking a shot during the Wings’ power play early in the third.

Rasmussen had a chance in front of the net five minutes into the period, but Nicolas Deslauriers dove into the crease and blocked the shot.

Laughton finally ended the scoring drought with his 12th goal at 9:01. Kevin Hayes straddled the blue line but managed to stay onside as he fed the puck to Laughton, who skated to the goal and scored on a backhander. Wade Allison was credited with the second assist.

The Red Wings’ Dominik Kubalik committed a turnover behind his net, leading to the Flyers’ second goal. Travis Konecny made the steal and passed to Cates, who one-timed it past Husso from the left circle. Cates’ sixth goal came at 13:23 of the period.

With Detroit’s net empty, Raymond scored on a rebound with 42 seconds left. Kubalik and Moritz Seider had the assists.

Hart robbed Raymond of the potential tying goal in the closing seconds with a pad save.
