Max Domi scored the decisive goal in a shootout and the Toronto Maple Leafs defeated the visiting New York Rangers 4-3 Saturday night.

John Tavares, Mitchell Marner and William Nylander scored for Toronto. Ilya Samsonov made 32 saves.

Vincent Trocheck scored twice and Alexis Lafreniere had a goal and two assists for the Rangers. Artemi Panarin added two assists.

Igor Shesterkin stopped 31 shots for the Rangers. He had allowed only one goal in each of his past four starts. He had won his seven previous games.

Lafreniere fired a 36-foot screened shot for his 18th goal of the season at 11:33 of the first period. Adam Fox kept the puck in the zone before passing to Lafreniere in the high slot. Nylander was benched for the rest of the period after the goal because of a missed assignment.

Trocheck hit a goal post during a power play in the final minute of the first. Toronto had a 12-10 advantage in shots on goal after one period.

After beating two Rangers to the puck, Marner lost control of it before he recovered to score his 24th goal of the season at 3:54 of the second period. Trocheck answered at 5:03 with his 21st of the season on a precise pass from Lafreniere, who had faked a shot. Nylander tied the game at 8:54 of the second when his 62-foot shot was deflected by a Rangers player.

Toronto led 22-16 in shots on goal after the second period.

Tavares scored his 18th goal of the season on a double deflection at 7:17 of the third period on Calle Jarnkrok’s shot. Trocheck scored on a rebound to tie the game at 18:53 of the third with the goaltender removed for an extra attacker.

Toronto defenseman Ilya Lyubushkin, acquired Thursday in a trade with the Anaheim Ducks, did not appear in the third period after taking a hard check in the second period.

Toronto activated Jarnkrok (hand) from injured reserve Saturday and sent forward Nicholas Robertson to the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League.
