Auston Matthews scored three goals for the second straight game and the Toronto Maple Leafs defeated the visiting Minnesota Wild 7-4 on Saturday night.

William Nylander added two goals and an assist for the Maple Leafs, who have won their first two games of the season. Calle Jarnkrok had a goal and an assist and Tyler Bertuzzi also scored for Toronto. Mitchell Marner, Morgan Rielly and John Tavares each had two assists.

Ryan Hartman, Matt Boldy, Marco Rossi and Brandon Duhaime scored for the Wild, who have split their first two games.

Ilya Samsonov stopped 28 shots for Toronto, and Filip Gustavsson made 26 saves for Minnesota.

Senators 5, Flyers 2

Jakob Chychrun had two goals and one assist, Brady Tkachuk scored twice and host Ottawa defeated Philadelphia.

Jake Sanderson added one goal and one assist while Vladimir Tarasenko and Claude Giroux contributed two assists apiece for the Senators. Ottawa scored three power-play goals, while goaltender Anton Forsberg made 19 saves in his season debut.

Travis Konecny led the Flyers with one goal and one assist, and Cam York added one goal for Philadelphia, which got 26 saves from goaltender Carter Hart.

Golden Knights 4, Ducks 1

Chandler Stephenson had a goal and two assists, and Adin Hill made 22 saves as Vegas spoiled Greg Cronin’s NHL coaching debut with a win over Anaheim in Las Vegas.

Jack Eichel and Shea Theodore each had a goal and an assist and Jonas Rondbjerg also scored for Vegas, which improved to 3-0 to start a season for the fourth time in the team’s seven-year history. The Golden Knights also improved to 23-4-1 all time against Anaheim, their most wins against any opponent.

Mason McTavish scored for Anaheim, and John Gibson finished with 34 saves in the season opener for the Ducks, who were playing their first game under Cronin. Cronin replaced Dallas Eakins after a 58-point season. Gibson fell to 4-17-5 all time against the Golden Knights.

Jets 6, Panthers 4

Kyle Connor had two goals and an assist as Winnipeg opened its home schedule with a victory over Florida.

Mark Scheifele and Mason Appleton each had a goal and an assist. Jets netminder Connor Hellebuyck turned aside 29 shots in Winnipeg’s first win of the season.

Evan Rodrigues led the Panthers with two goals and two assists. Sam Reinhart notched a goal and an assist and goalie Sergei Bobrovsky made 29 stops for Florida, which has lost its first two games.

Bruins 3, Predators 2

James van Riemsdyk’s two-goal game lifted Boston over visiting Nashville.

van Riemsdyk was stationed at the net front on the power play on each of his first two goals with Boston, including when he tipped home Charlie McAvoy’s blast from the point as it sailed through traffic for the game-winner at 2:52 of the third.

David Pastrnak registered a goal and an assist, becoming the fourth Bruins player to score multiple career penalty-shot goals for the franchise when he tied the score in the second period. Brad Marchand holds the record of six.

Blue Jackets 5, Rangers 3

Boone Jenner recorded a natural hat trick, leading host Columbus past New York.

Jenner got his second career hat trick by scoring three times in a span bridging the first and second periods. His other hat trick was March 12, 2019, against the Boston Bruins.

Erik Gustafsson scored in the opening minute, Will Cuylle netted his first career goal in the third and Chris Kreider scored on a power play in the final minute for the Rangers. New York also had tallies by Filip Chytil and Mika Zibanejad disallowed due to offsides calls.

Red Wings 6, Lightning 4

Alex DeBrincat scored two goals to lead host Detroit over Tampa Bay.

With the score tied 3-3, the Red Wings took the lead with 4:37 remaining in the second when J.T. Compher tipped in a point shot from Moritz Seider into the goal. DeBrincat added a goal with 15:16 left in the game as he took a pass on a 2-on-1 from Dylan Larkin and buried the chance.

Steven Stamkos had two goals and an assist, and Victor Hedman had a goal and two assists for the Lightning.

Canadiens 3, Blackhawks 2

Sean Monahan had a goal and an assist and Montreal held on to beat visiting Chicago.

Cole Caufield and Tanner Pearson also scored and Sam Montembeault made 28 saves for Montreal in its home opener. The Canadiens scored all their goals in the second period.

Tyler Johnson scored two goals and Petr Mrazek made 33 saves for the Blackhawks. Connor Bedard, the highly touted No. 1 overall pick by Chicago in the 2023 NHL Draft, assisted on Johnson’s second goal, giving him a goal and two assists in his first three NHL games.

Penguins 5, Flames 2

Bryan Rust had two goals for Pittsburgh, which scored five times in the third to down the visiting Calgary.

Jake Guentzel had a goal and two assists, Evgeni Malkin and Reilly Smith each added a goal and an assist, and Kris Letang posted two assists for the
Penguins, who have won two consecutive games.

Matt Coronato and Jonathan Huberdeau scored for the Flames, who have split their first two games. Calgary goaltender Jacob Markstrom stopped 24 shots.

Canucks 4, Oilers 3

Nils Hoglander collected one goal and one assist, Sam Lafferty scored the third-period game winner and goalie Casey DeSmith sparkled in net as Vancouver spoiled Edmonton’s home opener.

Andrei Kuzmenko and Jack Studnicka also scored for the Canucks, while Elias Pettersson notched a pair of assists, but the difference maker was DeSmith.
Vancouver’s No. 2 goalie made 37 saves to backstop his team to consecutive upset victories over the high-octane Oilers.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored once in a three-point game, while Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid each collected one goal and one assist for the Oilers, who failed to exact revenge from the 8-1 drubbing they suffered in Vancouver to open the season. Goalie Stuart Skinner stopped 12 shots.

Blues 2, Kraken 1 (SO)

Jordan Binnington stopped 30 shots, plus all three he saw in the shootout, as St. Louis edged visiting Seattle.

Jordan Kyrou scored for the Blues in regulation time and Robert Thomas scored the shootout winner. Binnington stopped Vince Dunn’s shot from the lower left circle with 35 seconds left in regulation to force overtime, and then he stopped Adam Larsson with 28 seconds left to force the shootout.

Jaden Schwartz scored for the Kraken and Joey Daccord made 25 saves for Seattle, which lost its third straight game to open the season.

Islanders 3, Sabres 2

Casey Cizikas scored the tiebreaking goal late in the third period for host New York, which edged the Buffalo in Elmont, N.Y.

Brock Nelson and Kyle Palmieri scored in the first period for the Islanders, who won their season opener for the first time since 2021. Goalie Ilya Sorokin made 26 saves.

Jordan Greenway scored in the second and Casey Mittelstadt tied the game in the third for the Sabres, who are 0-2-0 for the first time since 2021. Goalie Devon Levi recorded 26 saves.

Hurricanes 6, Kings 5 (SO)

Jordan Martinook converted in the ninth round of the shootout as Carolina recovered from squandering a three-goal lead in regulation to beat host Los Angeles Kings.

The Hurricanes scored three goals in the opening 13 1/2 minutes as they began a six-game road trip. Brent Burns, Aho, Jesperi Kotkaniemi, Brendan Lemieux and Teuvo Teravainen scored for the Hurricanes.

Anze Kopitar scored two goals, including the equalizer with 1:22 left in regulation with an extra attacker, as the Kings rallied from a three-goal hole. Drew Doughty, Moore and Vladislav Gavrikov also scored for Los Angeles, while Kevin Fiala posted three assists.

Avalanche 2, Sharks 1 (SO)

Cale Makar scored in regulation, Mikko Rantanen had the only goal in the shootout, and visiting Colorado beat San Jose.

Alexandar Georgiev stopped 20 shots through overtime and all three in the shootout for his 100th career win.

Mackenzie Blackwood turned away 51 shots and one in the shootout, and Thomas Bordeleau scored his first NHL goal for San Jose.
