Nathan MacKinnon scored four goals, three in a span of 6:37 of the second period, and added an assist as the Colorado Avalanche beat the Washington Capitals 6-2 on Wednesday in Denver.

MacKinnon had a natural in the second period and matched his career-best, single-game goal total. He has recorded at least one point in all 24 Colorado home games, breaking a tie with Joe Sakic (2000-01) for the longest home point streak in franchise history. MacKinnon’s second straight four-plus-point game gave him the NHL scoring lead with 82 points.

Mikko Rantanen finished with a goal and four assists, Cale Makar had a goal and two assists, and Alexandar Georgiev turned away 23 shots for Colorado, which won for the sixth time in eight games.

Dylan Strome scored twice and Charlie Lindgren made 26 saves for Washington, which lost for the second consecutive night. The Capitals have dropped three in a row overall.

Maple Leafs 1, Jets 0 (OT)

Auston Matthews scored with 47 seconds left in overtime as Toronto defeated visiting Winnipeg.

The Jets opened overtime with an unsuccessful power play on Calle Jarnkrok’s tripping penalty that carried over from the third period. Matthews won it with his 39th goal of the season, tipping in Morgan Rielly’s pass.

Ilya Samsonov, making his second consecutive start, made 32 saves to earn his second shutout of the season and the 12th of his career. Laurent Brossoit, making his 12th start of the season and first since Jan. 11, stopped 29 shots for Winnipeg.

Blues 4, Canucks 3 (OT)

Brayden Schenn scored 1:54 into overtime, lifting St. Louis past host Vancouver — though the Canucks extended their point streak to 10 games (8-0-2).

Jake Neighbours had a goal and an assist for the Blues, who won their third straight game, matching their best run of the season. Pavel Buchnevich and Alexey Toropchenko also scored for St. Louis, and Robert Thomas had two assists. Joel Hofer made 29 saves.

The Canucks rallied from a two-goal deficit thanks to Pius Suter’s third-period hat trick. Brock Boeser and Quinn Hughes had two assists each for Vancouver, and Casey DeSmith stopped 14 shots.

Hurricanes 3, Bruins 2

Jordan Martinook scored a breakaway goal with 2:27 left in regulation as visiting Carolina snapped Boston’s nine-game point streak with a win.

Martin Necas and Teuvo Teravainen each scored and Sebastian Aho had two assists for Carolina, which led 2-0 at the second intermission and improved to 9-2-1 in its past 12 games. Spencer Martin, who was claimed off waivers from Columbus on Friday, made 26 saves in his Hurricanes debut.

Boston’s Brad Marchand scored back-to-back goals in the third period to tie the score. He and Ray Bourque are now tied for fifth on the franchise’s all-time goals list with 395 apiece. Linus Ullmark made 30 saves in the loss, the Bruins’ first in regulation since Jan. 4.

Kraken 6, Blackhawks 2

Tomas Tatar scored twice and Jared McCann added his team-leading 19th goal of the season as Seattle defeated visiting Chicago.

Jaden Schwartz, Alex Wennberg and Brandon Tanev also tallied for the Kraken, who snapped a four-game losing streak. Joey Daccord made 32 saves for the win.

Joey Anderson and Nick Foligno scored for the Blackhawks, whose road skid reached 18 games (0-17-1) dating to a 5-3 victory on Nov. 9 at Tampa Bay. Arvid Soderblom stopped 22 of 28 shots.

Panthers 6, Coyotes 2

Matthew Tkachuk scored twice and Carter Verhaeghe dished three assists as Florida defeated Arizona in Sunrise, Fla.

Panthers winger Sam Reinhart had a goal and an assist to extend his points streak to 11 games, and Anton Lundell also logged a goal and an assist. Jonah Gadjovich and Sam Bennett each scored, and Gustav Forsling notched two assists.

Panthers goalie Sergei Bobrovsky made 31 saves to snap his personal three-game losing streak. Karel Vejmelka (37 saves) allowed the six goals on a rough night for Arizona, which had its two-game win streak snapped. The Coyotes’ Dylan Guenther scored and assisted on Logan Cooley’s goal.

Sabres 5, Kings 3

JJ Peterka had two goals and an assist for Buffalo, which scored four unanswered goals in a win at Los Angeles.

Jack Quinn had a goal and two assists, Dylan Cozens had a goal and an assist and Alex Tuch added a goal for the Sabres, who are 6-4-0 in their past 10 games. Devon Levi made 37 saves.

Adrian Kempe had a goal and an assist and Cam Talbot made 32 saves for the Kings, who are 2-7-5 in their past 14 games. Anze Kopitar and Pierre-Luc Dubois also scored for Los Angeles.
