Nikolaj Ehlers scored with 46 seconds remaining in overtime and the visiting Winnipeg Jets defeated the Ottawa Senators 2-1 on Saturday.

Ehlers entered the zone on the rush, eluded a defenseman and then beat Joonas Korpisalo with a backhand shot to the far side to win it. It was his 16th goal of the season.

Mason Appleton also scored for the Jets, who have won two straight and are 18-2-2 in their past 22 games. Connor Hellebuyck made 34 saves for Winnipeg in the opener of a three-game road trip.

Parker Kelly scored for the Senators, who finished 2-2 on their four-game homestand. Korpisalo made 27 saves.

Ottawa center Josh Norris returned after missing four games with an upper-body injury and had an assist.

Both teams went 0-for-4 on the power play.

After a quiet first period, Ottawa outshot Winnipeg 16-9 over the second 20 minutes, but the Jets scored the only goal.

Appleton made it 1-0 at 14:35 of the period. Nino Niederreiter entered the zone along the left boards on a 3-on-1 rush and centered to Appleton, who beat Korpisalo glove side with a wrist shot from between the circles.

Kelly tied it 1-1 at 4:43 of the third period. Norris stole a pass behind the net and passed across to Vladimir Tarasenko. He fed in front to Kelly, who one-timed a shot past Hellebuyck.

Hellebuyck made a trio of saves against Jake Sanderson, Mathieu Joseph and Tim Stutzle with just over eight minutes left in the third period to maintain the tie.

Stutzle beat Hellebuyck, but his shot hit the post with 2:16 remaining in regulation.

Korpisalo made a blocker save to stop Alex Iafallo early in the overtime session.

The Senators had a 3-on-1 chance midway through overtime but were unable to get a shot off.
