Ottawa Senators goaltender Anton Forsberg is sidelined indefinitely after sustaining MCL injuries to both of his knees, general manager Pierre Dorion announced Sunday.

Dorion also said defenseman Jake Sanderson will miss a minimum of two weeks with an upper-body injury.

Forsberg was stretchered off the ice following a collision in the crease during the third period of Ottawa’s 6-3 loss to Edmonton on Saturday afternoon. Senators defenseman Travis Hamonic pushed Oilers forward Zach Hyman onto Forsberg’s right leg.

Mads Sogaard relieved Forsberg and stopped all three shots he faced in his season debut. Sogaard, 22, is in line to receive plenty of work with fellow goaltender Cam Talbot also sidelined since Jan. 25 because of a lower-body injury.

Fosberg, 30, posted an 11-11-2 record with two shutouts, a 3.26 goals-against average and .902 save percentage in 28 games (25 starts) this season.

He owns a 48-57-11 record with three shutouts, a 3.08 GAA and .908 save percentage in 130 career games (119 starts) with the Columbus Blue Jackets, Chicago Blackhawks, Carolina Hurricanes and Senators.

Sanderson, 20, has recorded 21 points (three goals, 18 assists) in 51 games this season. He was selected by the Senators with the fifth overall pick of the 2020 NHL Draft.
