Forward Sammy Blais and the New York Rangers agreed to a one-year contract extension.

The team did not announce financial terms.

Blais, 26, began the 2021-22 season skating on the top line with Mika Zibanejad and Chris Kreider but sustained a torn right ACL in a game on Nov. 14 against the New Jersey Devils. Following surgery, he missed the rest of the season. He played in just 14 games and posted four assists.

A native of Quebec, Blais was a sixth-round pick of the St. Louis Blues in the 2014 NHL Draft. In 133 career games with the Blues (2017-21) and Rangers, he has totaled 39 points (17 goals, 22 assists).

He was traded to New York with a second-round pick in 2022 NHL Draft for Pavel Buchnevich last July.
