OVERWATCH News: Infernal win again, hold onto first place in OWL qualifiers

The Seoul Infernal held on to first place in Summer Stage qualifiers with a sweep Saturday of O2 Blast in the Overwatch League’s East Region.

Also Saturday, the Seoul Dynasty escaped the Hangzhou Spark, the Shanghai Dragons bested Poker Face and PANTHERA dropped the Guangzhou Charge.

East Region qualifying will run through Aug. 6. All matches also will be best-of-five in a single round-robin format, with all 10 teams moving on to the Summer Stage Knockouts. Matches between the three teams based in South Korea (Dallas Fuel, Seoul Dynasty, Seoul Infernal) will all be offline.

The Infernal defeated O2 Blast 2-1 on Ilios, 3-1 on Eichenwalde and 3-0 on Route 66.

The Dynasty began with a 2-0 win on Lijiang Tower, but the Spark fought right back, answering with a 3-0 victory on Numbani and taking Dorado 3-2. But they couldn’t close out the victory, with the Dynasty finishing up with a 1-0 win on New Queen Street and a 2-1 triumph on Oasis.

The Charge jumped out to a lead over PANTHERA with a 2-1 win on Oasis, and then alternated victories in the next three. On the fifth map, tied at two maps each, PANTHERA broke the trend andwon 2-1 on Busan to get its first triumph of the stage.

The Dragons closed the day’s action by besting Poker Face 3-1. Poker Face opened with a 3-1 win on Busan, but the Dragons snapped off three straight victories: 3-1 on Eichenwalde, 3-0 on Circuit Royal and 1-0 on Esperanca.

Qualifying action in the East continues Sunday with three matches:
–Dallas Fuel vs. Dreamers
–Hangzhou Spark vs. PANTHERA
–O2 Blast vs. Seoul Dynasty
