The Florida Mayhem vaulted into second place in the West Region qualifying standings on Sunday at the Overwatch League’s Spring Stage Knockouts.

The Mayhem beat the London Spitfire 3-1 to move out of a tie with the Washington Justice, who fell 3-0 to the Houston Outlaws. The day also saw the San Francisco Shock rally to beat the New York Excelsior 3-2.

Florida opened its match with a 2-0 win on Antarctic Peninsula and a 3-2 victory on Blizzard World. London answered with a 1-0 win on Shambali Monastery, but Florida wrapped things up with a 1-0 result on Esperanca.

Houston swept past Washington 2-0 on Lijiang Tower, 2-1 on King’s Row and 1-0 on Havana.

New York started out with a 2-0 win on Nepal and a 3-2 squeaker on King’s Row, but the Shock pushed back from there. They won 1-0 on Havana and 1-0 on New Queen Street to even the match, then pulled out a 2-1 triumph on Lijiang Tower.

The OWL format is different this year, with lower-level teams getting the chance to compete with the top-level squads.

The season format will now see teams amass points based on their results in regional qualifiers rather than the standard league standings that were in place in previous years.

The Spring Stage will be followed by the Midseason Madness event, while the Summer Stage will be followed by the season-ending playoffs, but the makeup of the events will be different for the East and West regions.

Spring Stage qualifying matches will determine how the West teams are seeded in the Spring Stage Knockouts and which West teams make Midseason Madness.

West Region qualifying resumes Friday with three matches:
–Vegas Eternal vs. Boston Uprising
–Vancouver Titans vs. London Spitfire
–Los Angeles Valiant vs. Toronto Defiant
