OVERWATCH News: Uprising, Shock improve to 3-0 at OWL West Summer qualifiers

The Boston Uprising beat the Toronto Defiant 3-1 in a battle of unbeatens to move into top spot in Summer Stage qualifiers for the Overwatch League’s West Region on Friday.

The San Francisco Shock also improved to 3-0 at the onset of Week 2 of qualifying by beating the Los Angeles Valiant 3-2, and the Houston Outlaws got into the win column with a 3-0 result over the New York Excelsior.

Summer Stage Qualifiers in the West run through Sept. 4, with each team in the region playing a total of eight best-of-five matches. The top three teams will advance to the playoffs, while the fourth- through 10th-ranked squads will be sent to the play-ins.

Boston beat Toronto 2-1 on both Lijiang Tower and Midtown to open their match. The Defiant got one back by winning 3-1 on Circuit Royal, but the Uprising closed things out with a 1-0 win on Colosseo.

Los Angeles started its match with a 2-1 Lijiang Tower victory, but San Francisco moved ahead by winning 3-2 on both Numbani and Circuit Royal. The Valiant evened the match with a 1-0 triumph on Esperanca before the Shock took the match with a 2-1 win on Oasis.

Houston swept New York with wins of 2-1 on Ilios, 1-0 on Eichenwalde and 1-0 on Watchpoint: Gibraltar.

Qualifying action in the West continues Saturday with three matches:
–Boston Uprising vs. Florida Mayhem
–London Spitfire vs. San Francisco Shock
–Atlanta Reign vs. Houston Outlaws
