Starbucks is being sued over claims that the fruit in its Refresher fruit drinks is missing.

Starbucks (SBUX), a company known for its innovative coffee and beverage creations, now finds itself at the center of a legal battle over the contents of its Refreshers fruit drinks. The plaintiffs are seeking damages of over $5 million.

Starbucks’ Refreshers range includes a variety of colorful, fruit-inspired drinks that have become a popular choice among consumers looking for a refreshing and caffeine-free option. These drinks feature names like “Very Berry Hibiscus” and “Cool Lime,” which evoke images of fresh fruits and natural flavors. However, the lawsuit contends that the actual ingredients in these drinks fall far short of those expectations and consumers are fighting back. According to the plaintiffs, Starbucks Refreshers are primarily made from a combination of water, sugar, caffeine from green coffee extract, and various natural flavors. While the natural flavors used in these drinks may impart some fruity notes and aroma, they are not derived from real fruit sources. This has led to accusations that Starbucks has been duping its customers into believing they are consuming a healthier, fruit-based beverage.

According to the plaintiffs, the principal ingredients in these drinks are water, sugar, and grape juice concentrate. They also claim that these drinks “differ from other Starbucks products” in that they don’t truly include the substances listed in their names.

The lawsuit alleging that these drinks are missing fruit raises significant questions about how companies market their products and the expectations of today’s consumers.
