Walmart (WMT), the nation’s largest retailer has entered into a partnership with telehealth provider Pawp. The two companies have come together to offer pet telehealth to Walmart Plus subscribers. Both the companies confirmed the news that these members will receive a one-year membership to the services provided by the startup.
Multiple outlets reported that the deal would begin on Tuesday. The deal is expected to include unlimited video and text access throughout the clock. Pawp’s veterinarians can be reportedly accessed for help in less than 60 seconds so that its users feel that they are never alone, if something goes awry, according to Pawp site.
Pet health services are similar to those offered to humans. Some vets believe that these remote services are a boon while others doubt their efficacy as they say that hands-on service is required to diagnose and deal with pet health problems.

Walmart already partners with several pet services including dog walking and sitting services with Rover and VetIQ Petcare. Services are also offered within veterinary clinics in 60 Walmart stores. The giant retailer also offers pet insurance through Petplan. The big box retailer offers Walmart PetRx in stores as well as on online pharmacy services.
The telehealth sector is rapidly increasing and major players including Walmart and Amazon are offering such services for their paid subscribers. Add on services are popular with annual memberships and sometimes increase the possibility of customers availing these subscriptions due to add ons.
Amazon is the leading e-commerce company with the largest number of subscribers and its Amazon Prime service has over 170 million subscriptions according to estimates while Walmart has roughly 51 million subscribers. It is difficult to substantiate these figures as the companies do not confirm the numbers. Both of them compete to offer the best add ons to their paid subscribers.
