Southwest canceled around 2,600 more flights on the East Coast by late afternoon a day after the majority of U.S. carriers had recovered from the storm. According to tracking firm FlightAware, those flights made up more than 80% of the 3,000 journeys that were postponed nationally on Tuesday.
And it appeared that the mayhem would never end. In an effort to straighten out its chaotic schedule, the airline also cancelled 2,500 flights for Wednesday and roughly 1,400 for Thursday. To make matters worse, Southwest cancelled all flights out of LAX on Tuesday December 28, 2022.
The Biden administration and lawmakers are both investigating the disaster. Pete Buttigieg, the secretary of transportation, pushed other carriers to set price caps.

Delta Air Lines announced on Wednesday that it “limited pricing in all the markets Southwest services and that the fares are good through Saturday in order to assist stranded passengers. United stated it has capped fares in certain areas, while American Airlines said it did so in cities severely affected by cancellations.
What happened with Southwest Airlines? CNN reported, “But Southwest (LUV) also hurt itself with an aggressive schedule and by underinvesting in its operations. Southwest’s schedule includes shorter flights with tighter turnaround times, which are causing some of the problems,” Kathleen Bangs, a FlightAware spokesperson said.
