After confronting a suspected shoplifter, who allegedly retaliated by shooting the manager of a CVS in Arizona, the manager was shot and died last week. Sevey is charged with first-degree premeditated murder and evidence tampering. Due to his offenses, he is also a prohibited possessor and was not permitted to own a firearm.
At a Mesa CVS on September 7, manager Michael Jacobs, 49, and Jared Sevey, 38, allegedly got into a fight over theft. According to KPHO in Mesa Arizona, Sevey returned to the business armed with a revolver and asked a staff member for Jacobs before shooting him many times.
KKTV.com in Mesa Arizona reported, according to the authorities, Sevey got into a shoplifting argument with Jacobs earlier in the day while inside the store. Sevey apparently went home and grabbed a gun after the altercation.
Sevey was seen on surveillance footage pulling a gun when Jacobs approached the front of the store, according to the police. When Jacobs tried to flee from Sevey, witnesses reported hearing four gunshots. Jacobs was pursued by Sevey, who continued to fire at him.
After spotting Sevey going along a nearby street and tossing a gun into a canal, detectives claimed they were able to apprehend him. Sevey seemed to be covered with blood, according to the officers.
In a police interrogation, Sevey allegedly acknowledged to killing Jacobs because “this was the last straw” for him after “tired of being bullied.”
According to court records, the 39-year-old instructed his daughter to visit her grandma if he didn’t return home. Then, with a weapon in hand, Sevey went back to the shop and ordered a worker to take Jacobs. He additionally requested that the worker get everyone out, according to court records
