Although Depp was not directly named in the op-ed, the jury awarded him $15 million in damages, later reduced to $10,350,000 due to statutory limitations. In her countersuit, Heard was awarded $2 million in damages.
After years of legal battles, Depp and Heard settled their defamation claims against each other in December. As part of the settlement, Depp agreed to receive $1 million, which was paid by Heard’s insurance company, according to major sources. Depp reportedly plans to distribute the payout evenly among five charities: the Make-A-Film Foundation, The Painted Turtle, the Red Feather, Tetiaroa Society, and the Amazonia Fund Alliance.

This payment seems to mark the end of the protracted divorce and legal disputes between the former couple, which have spanned over seven years. Depp and Heard married in 2015 but separated the following year amid allegations of abuse and infidelity.
