Celebrity Mark Wahlberg has been sued by former footballer David Beckham. The Hollywood actor had hired the legendary British footballer as a global ambassador for Australian brand F45. Beckham expected to receive shares worth millions but lost a huge profit due to the delay in issuance of the stock, whose value plunged, leading to a loss for Beckham.
American actor Mark Wahlberg bought a minority stake in F45 in 2019 through his investment group. In 2020, he asked David Beckham to become the global ambassador for the brand. The Manchester United legend also shared photos on social media showing him working out using equipment from the F45 brand. Millions saw these photos of his web fans but have been deleted since.
David Beckham was promised company shares in early 2022. However, they were not issued to him, and the share price of F45 fell from around $12 a share to $3 per share. According to Beckham’s lawyers, the footballer lost more than 800 million pounds due to the delay.
F45 reached an early share price of $16 but has declined since. It is now a penny stock with a value of 15 cents. Many gym franchises across the US, the UK, Australia, and Ireland have been shuttered. The 48-year-old sports star’s company, DB Ventures Ltd., filed the lawsuit in California courts.
Earlier, football legend David Beckham and golfing legend Greg Norman had filed cases against the company in 2022, but a judge reportedly ruled that the F45 cases had to be filed separately.
David Beckham is also suing Mark Wahlberg Investment Group (MWIG). He is also suing Adam Gilchrist and Rob Deutsch, who are founders of the gym group F45.
Mark Wahlberg’s lawyers have reportedly asked to dismiss the case as they claim it is baseless.
None of the representatives of Wahlberg or Beckham responded when asked for comments.
