Influencer Logan Paul’s Prime Hydration faces lawsuit for ‘misleading’ consumers about caffeine content in 12-ounce energy drinks

Influencer and social media guru Logan Paul is in the line of fire again. Prime Hydration, the company he co-founded with KSI, finds itself amidst legal turbulence, facing a class-action lawsuit that challenges its ingredient transparency. Owned by Louisville-based Congo Brands, Prime Hydration has been accused of misleading consumers about the caffeine content in its energy drinks. A woman from New York alleges that the sports drink company is using “deceptive and misleading advertising.”

The lawsuit, filed on April 8 in the Southern District of New York, contends that Prime Hydration’s 12-ounce energy drinks, advertised to contain 200 milligrams of caffeine, exceed this amount, registering between 215-225 milligrams. This is not recommended for children under age 18. If proven true, this discrepancy could land the company in hot water, facing allegations of deceptive marketing practices.

This legal entanglement is not the brand’s first rodeo in the courtroom. A previous lawsuit from 2023 alleged that Prime Hydration’s drinks contained PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances), commonly known as “forever chemicals,” which pose potential health risks. As per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), PFAS represents a category of chemicals employed in fabricating fluoropolymer coatings and items designed to repel heat, oil, stains, grease, and water.

Despite the legal roller-coasters, Prime Hydration has achieved remarkable success since its inception in 2022, surpassing $1.2 billion in annual sales by 2023. The 29-year-old took to a social media short messaging platform to address the issue directly. He has refuted the claims, emphasizing the brand’s adherence to governmental standards and saying there was “nothing to hide.’

The boxer-cum-wrestler became prominent through his presence on a now-defunct Internet video-sharing platform. In February 2014, his web fans surpassed 3.1 million across multiple social media platforms. Paul has been embroiled in numerous controversies surrounding a December 2017 excursion to Japan.
