Celebrity footballer Cristiano Ronaldo has requested that he should be allowed to leave Manchester United, according to several reports, if the club would get a satisfactory offer. Although United indicated that he was not for sale, many fans have reacted with resignation to the news and said that the club should “let him go.” The legendary footballer, who has won five Ballon D’Or, wants to leave as he wishes to spend the final years of his sports career in Champions League football.

The 37-year old footballer returned to United last year. His contract will be up in 2023. However, the English club failed to qualify for the next season Champions League. This had led to speculation about his future in the club and now several outlets have reported that the bosses at Bayern Munich or Chelsea could buy him, if mutually agreed terms are met.

After his return to Old Trafford last summer from Juventus, Ronaldo became the top scorer of Manchester United. He scored 24 goals but was hugely disappointed as the club didn’t make it to the Champions League.

Ronaldo has a year left in his contract with United but would like to leave, if possible. Reports say that the footballer’s agent Jorge Mendes met with Todd Boehly, the new chief of Chelsea. However, the Blues are not the only club interested in snagging him.

Other clubs including Bayern and Napoli are also interested in adding the star player to their teams. Paris St. Germain is one of the few major clubs that has not shown interest, as yet.

The Times reported the news and it was confirmed by The Athletic. However, what remains unconfirmed is whether Dutch manager Erik ten Hag will let Ronaldo go, before he finishes his contract with United. The new manager at the football club had been planning on having the high scorer for the 2022-2023 season and was not looking to transfer him, according to a report in ESPN, last month.
