Celebrity Kirstie Alley, Cheers alum dies after short bout of cancer

Celebrity Kirstie Alley, alum of popular sitcom Cheers and other notable performances, died after a short bout of cancer. The talented actress was 71. The children of the outstanding, award winning actress announced the news on her social media page, on Monday evening. Several celebrity stars including John Travolta, Ted Danson, Jamie Lee Curtis, Kelsey Grammer and others who worked with her in iconic shows and movies expressed their condolences online.

Alley’s children True and Lillie Parker released a statement confirming the news on her Instagram page as well as to various outlets. The statement said that she had been surrounded by her closest family and fought her recently diagnosed colon cancer with strength. It also said, “As iconic as she was on screen, she was an even more amazing mother and grandmother.”

In 1987, Kirstie Alley starred in the popular sitcom Cheers as Rebecca Howe. The NBC sitcom not only raised her acting profile but also fetched her an Emmy and a Golden Globe. The celebrity actress also worked with John Travolta in the film series Look Who’s Talking.

Kirstie Alley was not only a natural in rom-com but also starred in the movie David’s Mother. She won her second Emmy for best lead actress in 1993, for her role in the movie.

Although her views differed from many of her co-stars and more, heartfelt tributes poured in for Kirstie Alley from many of her co-stars and fans.
