Crispy Roasted Pork Belly

Ingredients:

  • 2 pounds (about 1 kg) pork belly, skin-on
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 2 teaspoons five-spice powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Pork Belly:
    • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
    • Pat the pork belly dry with paper towels.
    • Using a sharp knife, score the skin of the pork belly in a crisscross pattern, making sure to cut through the skin but not too deep into the meat.
  2. Marinate the Pork Belly:
    • Mix soy sauce, rice vinegar, honey, five-spice powder, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and vegetable oil to create the marinade.
    • Place the pork belly in a large zip-top bag or a shallow dish, and pour the marinade over it. Ensure the marinade covers the entire surface of the pork belly, including the cuts on the skin.
    • Seal the bag or cover the dish, and let it marinate in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours or overnight for the best flavor.
  3. Roast the Pork Belly:
    • Remove the marinated pork belly from the refrigerator and let it come to room temperature for about 30 minutes.
    • Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
    • Place the pork belly on a wire rack over a baking sheet to allow air circulation.
    • Roast the pork belly in the oven for about 30 minutes to achieve a crispy skin.
    • Reduce the oven temperature to 375°F (190°C) and continue roasting for another 30-40 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C) and the skin is crispy.

  4. Rest and Slice:
    • Allow the roasted pork belly to rest for 10 minutes before slicing.
    • Slice into desired serving portions and enjoy the crispy exterior and succulent interior.
