Tommy Garay of Texas and his infant daughter are homeless after his ex-girlfriend set fire to his house in a jealous rage. When the ex-girlfriend saw that another lady had responded to their Facetime chat, she allegedly flew into a jealous rage. The mystery woman was revealed to be the boyfriend’s cousin. Senaida Soto, arrested on November 21, is charged with burglary and arson, both felonies. Her bond was set at $165,000 dollars.
Garay claimed that his connection with Soto had only lasted one month and that he had never envisioned becoming a victim of such acts. He claimed that the house in San Antonio that had been in his family for many generations and in which his father had grown up had been destroyed by fire. The memories vanished in a flash, he said. He said that this was incredibly distressing, especially for his daughter who keeps asking why they couldn’t go home.
The man said the fire destroyed everything he owned and set up a GoFundMe in an effort to earn money to help him get back on his feet. To help him reach his $50,000 objective, close to $13,000 was raised on Monday afternoon. The fire did not result in any injuries, but it did more than $50,000 worth of property damage.
The strange incident occurred on November 20, when Soto became upset that her boyfriend might have been playing her twice. She then broke into his house, took a few things, and started a fire on a couch that quickly spread, engulfing the house in flames, a witness told KSAT News.
Soto then Facetimed her partner while the house was on fire, sending a picture of the burning couch. According to the affidavit, she said, “I hope your stuff is going to be ok” before leaving the scene in her grey Kia Optima with the things she had taken from the house. The unknown party on the FaceTime chat turned out to be a boyfriend’s relative, according to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office.
Around 1:45 in the morning, the Bexar County Fire Marshal’s Office responded to an arson report on Shepherd Road. The owner of the house made the call. In a video footage, Soto may be seen lighting the couch in the living room of the spreading house on video footage. A washing basket full of garments that overturned is shown. The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office and the Fire Marshall’s Office collaborated on the arson investigation. Although it is unclear if Soto has been released, a pre-trial hearing has been scheduled for her.
