Apple Inc., (AAPL), known for its secrecy, appears to have something significant in store as it prepares to introduce a new product. In an intriguing move, the tech giant has disclosed the schedule for the upcoming Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) at Apple Park in California, taking place from June 5-9. The first day of the event will feature a “Special Evening Activity” that Apple assures attendees they won’t want to miss, potentially serving as the official launch party for their new wearable device.
The multinational technology company has already hinted at a “Special Event at Apple Park” on the opening day, promising a unique and immersive experience to kick off an extraordinary week. At this year’s WWDC, Apple is anticipated to announce major software updates for its devices, including iOS 17, iPadOS 17, watchOS 10, and macOS, targeting iPhones, iPads, smartwatches, and Mac computers respectively.
Prior to the WWDC event in June, Apple provided a glimpse of upcoming accessibility features that will be included in the next significant iPhone update, expected later this year. Among them is the “Personal Voice” feature, which will allow iPhones and iPads to generate digital replicas of a user’s voice for face-to-face conversations, phone calls, FaceTime, and audio calls. Personal Voice aims to facilitate communication with family and friends and cater to individuals with conditions that may affect their ability to speak over time. To create a Personal Voice, users simply record 15 minutes of audio on their device, with Apple emphasizing its commitment to privacy through local machine-learning technology.
Additionally, Apple unveiled other accessibility improvements for iOS devices, such as the Assistive Access feature, designed to assist users with cognitive disabilities and their caregivers in utilizing iOS devices more effectively. Another innovation showcased by Apple is the enhanced Magnifier feature, now equipped with a point-and-speak-backed Detection Mode. This functionality combines camera input, LiDAR input, and machine-learning technology to announce text displayed on the screen.
Traditionally, the tech giant introduces its software at WWDC in beta form, allowing developers and interested members of the public to participate. The beta features remain in testing throughout the summer and are typically launched to the general public in the autumn, coinciding with the release of new iPhones.
