The Milwaukee Brewers placed outfielder Joey Wiemer on the 10-day injured list on Saturday because of left knee discomfort.

Wiemer slipped in left field during the eighth inning of the Brewers’ 3-1 victory over the host Chicago Cubs on Friday. He told team trainers that he “heard a pop” in his left knee, manager Pat Murphy said, and the knee felt worse on Saturday.

“Because of how he plays and the type of position he plays, we’re not going to take any risks,” Murphy said.

Wiemer said an MRI exam did not show ligament damage as he was diagnosed with a strained popliteus muscle, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Wiemer, 25, is batting .174 (4-for-23) in 16 games. A fourth-round selection by the Brewers in the 2020 MLB Draft, he is a career .203 hitter with 13 home runs and 42 RBIs in 148 games since making his major league debut in 2023.

In other moves, Milwaukee recalled infielder Andruw Monasterio and left-hander Jared Koenig from Triple-A Nashville and optioned right-hander Corbin Martin to Nashville.

Monasterio, 26, has hit .253 in 96 games for the Brewers since 2023.

Martin, 28, has not appeared in a game for Milwaukee this season, and is a career 1-5 with a 6.71 ERA in 17 games (10 starts) over parts of three seasons for the Houston Astros (2019) and Arizona Diamondbacks (2021-22).

Koenig, 30, is 2-0 with a 1.04 ERA, four strikeouts and two walks in 8 2/3 innings over five relief appearances this season for the Brewers. He also played for the Oakland Athletics in 2022 and was 1-3 with a 5.72 ERA, 22 strikeouts and 15 walks in 39 1/3 innings over 10 games (five starts).
