Jake McCarthy was 3-for-4 with three runs and was one of five Diamondbacks to drive in two runs as Arizona beat the visiting San Diego Padres 11-4 on Sunday in Phoenix to avoid being swept in this three-game series.

The Diamondbacks had lost eight of their last 11. San Diego had a four-game winning streak snapped.

Every player in both starting lineups had at least one hit except Arizona’s Eugenio Suarez (0-for-4). The two teams had combined for 14 runs and 17 hits before the fourth inning was even over.

In the bottom of the first, Ketel Marte hit a towering two-run homer to right and Corbin Carroll added a two-run single to give the Diamondbacks a 4-0 lead. It was Marte’s sixth homer of the year.

The Padres came back with a three-run second, with Jackson Merrill knocking a two-run homer to center and Kyle Higashioka adding an RBI double. It was Merrill’s second homer of his rookie season.

Arizona pulled out to a 6-3 lead in the bottom of the second on an RBI single by McCarthy, who scored later on Christian Walker’s double to center.

The Padres scored another run in the third when Fernando Tatis Jr. scored on Manny Machado’s double-play ball, but then the Diamondbacks put together another four-run inning in the bottom of the fourth.

McCarthy had an RBI double and Walker drove in another with an infield single before Joc Pederson’s two-run homer to right gave Arizona a 10-4 lead. The blast was Pederson’s third of the season.

In the fifth, Tucker Barnhart’s single up the middle put the Diamondbacks up 11-4.

The first scoreless inning came in the sixth as relievers Justin Martinez (Arizona) and Jhony Brito (San Diego) put up zeroes.

Arizona right-hander Ryne Nelson (2-2) scuffled to get through five innings, but got the win by giving up four runs and eight hits, with a walk and three strikeouts across 99 pitches.

Right-hander Matt Waldron (1-4), the Padres’ starter, lasted just three-plus innings, allowing eight runs (seven earned) on eight hits. He walked three and fanned two.

Luis Arraez went 1-for-5 in his second game with the Padres. On Saturday, he became the first player with four hits in his San Diego debut.
