Spencer Sanders threw for 268 yards with two touchdowns and also rushed 14 times for 54 yards with a touchdown to lead No. 11 Oklahoma State to a 34-17 win over visiting Arizona State on Saturday.

Sanders completed 21 of 38 pass attempts while throwing one interception.

Dominic Richardson led the Cowboys (2-0) on the ground with 131 yards and a touchdown on 27 rushes.

Oklahoma State went scoreless in the first quarter but produced 17 points in the second behind touchdown runs of 3 yards by Richardson and 6 by Sanders.

Arizona State’s scoring in the first half was limited to a 27-yard field goal by Carter Brown in the first quarter.

The Cowboys’ defense fueled the 17-3 lead at halftime, holding Arizona State (1-1) to 158 yards of total offense.

Florida transfer Emory Jones matched nearly half of that total on one pass, a 73-yard completion to Giovanni Sanders that set up a 1-yard touchdown run by Xazavian Valladay on Arizona State’s first drive to open the second half.

Jones completed 12 of 24 pass attempts for 223 yards.

Valladay gained 118 yards on 21 carries.

Arizona State finished with 354 total yards, while Oklahoma State had 465.

Tanner Brown, who made a 43-yard field goal in the first half, converted on a 24-yard attempt with 5:48 left in the third quarter to give the Cowboys a 20-10 lead.

Arizona State went 0-for-7 in third-down conversion attempts in the first half. The Sun Devils went on to finish 2-for-13.

Their first successful third-down conversion was not until 1:18 remained in the third quarter, when Jones, on his own 19-yard line, completed a 10-yard pass to Sanders with six yards needed for the first down.

Arizona State eventually scored on a 21-yard pass from Jones to Elijhah Badger to cut the lead to 20-17 with 14:25 remaining.

Oklahoma State answered quickly, going 65 yards in 54 seconds in only three plays, capped by Sanders’ 31-yard touchdown pass to Bryson Green.

After the Sun Devils were forced to punt, Sanders engineered a 13-play, 80-yard scoring drive finished by a 14-yard touchdown pass to Ollie Gordon with 7:41 left.
