NFL Sunday Ticket is leaving DirecTV and moving to YouTube TV in a $2.5 Billion Deal

The NFL as the Sunday Ticket has been available on DirecTV since 1994, and they currently pay the NFL $1.5 billion per year. On Thursday, the NFL announced a deal with YouTube TV owned by Google for the NFL Sunday Ticket i in a $2.5 Billion Deal.

It comes after years of uncertainty over which media company will be the next to possess the rights to Sunday Ticket, which transmits all NFL games to fans outside of major markets. The NFL began streaming NFL Network and NFL RedZone to YouTube TV customers in 2020.

NFL Sunday Ticket debuted in 1994 and has been featured on DirecTV’s satellite service since then. NFL Sunday Ticket will be offered as an add-on bundle on YouTube TV and solo on YouTube Primetime Channels beginning next season. WebFans are super excited.

YouTube will “usher in a new era of how fans across the United States watch and follow the NFL.” NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said about the deal.

There are numerous internet television services that aim to replace cable and satellite television.

The NFL is the most popular live television content in America, and the agreement is the latest indication that live sports are transitioning away from cable and toward streaming services. Amazon and Apple have both secured significant sports deals for pro sports streaming.
