Marcus Johansson capped a rally with the tiebreaking goal at 14:35 of the third period as the Washington Capitals defeated the visiting Los Angeles Kings 4-3 Saturday night.

Nic Dowd, John Carlson and Lars Eller also scored third-period goals for the Capitals, who won for the third time in their past four games, and Dmitry Orlov had three assists. Goaltender Darcy Kuemper made 23 saves.

Viktor Arvidsson had a goal and two assists, and Sean Durzi and Phillip Danault also tallied for the Kings, who wrapped up a five-game trip by going 3-2-0. Trevor Moore had two assists and Jonathan Quick stopped 28 of 32 shots.

Johansson took a drop pass from Orlov in the left faceoff circle, drove behind the net and went for a wraparound that deflected off a Kings defenseman and past Quick.

Trailing 2-0, the Capitals finally got the puck past Quick at 3:11 of the third. After a scramble in the left-wing corner, the puck bounced to Joe Snively in the faceoff circle but he fanned on the shot. Dowd was trailing the play and put a one-timer past a screened Quick.

The Capitals tied it just 59 seconds later on Carlson’s knuckling wrist shot from the top of the left faceoff circle that went off Quick’s catching glove.

Eller gave the Capitals the lead at 8:59 of the third on a wrist shot from the right faceoff circle after a cross-ice pass from Orlov.

Arvidsson tied the score at 10:31 of the third on a two-on-one break with Moore, who skated down the left wing before sending a pass across the top of the crease for Arvidsson’s tip-in at the far post.

After a scoreless first period, the Kings took the lead at 1:26 of the second. Arvidsson corralled the puck behind the net and found defenseman Durzi sneaking into the slot for a one-timer.

The Kings made it 2-0 at 15:23 of the second after working the puck down the right-wing boards. Moore shoveled the puck ahead to Arvidsson who fired a pass across the top of the crease to Danault, who tipped the puck just inside the left post.

Washington’s Evgeny Kuznetsov returned after serving a one-game NHL suspension for high-sticking Vancouver’s Kyle Burroughs.
