Tage Thompson had two goals and an assist to help the visiting Buffalo Sabres earn a 6-4 win against the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday.

Jeff Skinner scored twice, Alex Tuch had a goal and an assist and Casey Mittelstadt added two assists for the Sabres, who have won three of five since losing their first two games of the season.

Zemgus Girgensons added a goal for Buffalo, and Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen made 34 saves in his first start of the season.

Mathieu Joseph and Vladimir Tarasenko each had a goal and an assist for the Senators, who have lost two in a row after a three-game winning streak. Ottawa’s Jakob Chychrun and Josh Norris also scored.

Senators goalie Anton Forsberg allowed five goals on 18 shots before being replaced by Joonas Korpisalo (five saves) at the start of the third period.

Skinner gave Buffalo a 1-0 lead at 8:06 of the first period off a two-on-one. Tuch fed a no-look pass over to Skinner, who fired one high short side from the left circle.

Girgensons doubled the advantage at 11:20 of the first, redirecting Connor Clifton’s shot-pass high in the slot.

Skinner notched his second of the night at 4:04 of the second. Forsberg made a pad save on Dylan Cozens’ shot from the left circle. The rebound went to Skinner at the side of the net, where he banked it in off the goalie’s skate for a 3-0 advantage.

Chychrun narrowed it to 3-1 at 13:14 of the middle period. Luukkonen stopped Travis Hamonic’s point shot, and a pinching Chychrun pounced on the rebound in the left circle.

Tuch deflected a Rasmus Dahlin point shot from the slot on the power play, his first goal of the season, to push the lead to 4-1 at 17:08 of the second. Thompson made it 5-1 at 1:40 later when he tipped in Owen Power’s point shot.

Tarasenko cut it to 5-2 from in front at 15:35 of the third period.

Josh Norris made it 5-3 on the power play at 18:38, and 19 seconds later, Joseph brought Ottawa within one.

Thompson scored short-handed into an empty net at 19:37 for the 6-4 final.
