OTHER News: Garrett Lowe pushes past Jimmy Mullis for eNASCAR win

Garrett Lowe pushed Jimmy Mullis to the outside while nearing the final turn of the final lap to prevail at a virtual Charlotte Motor Speedway on Tuesday as part of the eNASCAR Coca-Cola iRacing Series.

Mullis, in the No. 29 Chevrolet, looked to have the victory locked up, but Lowe snuck up behind him, got the inside position and took the checkered flag in what turned out to be a neck-and-neck finish.

It was Lowe’s first win of 2024. He edged Mullis by 0.001 seconds.

The two drivers have history, as things got chippy at the end of a race at a virtual Nashville Superspeedway on July 11, 2023. Mullis got the best of Lowe in that one, and Lowe felt wronged when Mullis tapped his bumper to push him aside on the home stretch.

Lowe, who was in the No. 89 Ford on Tuesday, ended up coming in third in that race.

“To be honest, all I could think about was Nashville,” said Lowe, who resides in Gastonia, N.C. “Don’t wanna hold a grudge or anything, but man, you work so hard to win these races and I feel like we got robbed last year. … We had a great car tonight.”

Mullis, meanwhile, won’t be forgetting Tuesday’s loss anytime soon.

“I felt like I was in the best spot possible, and God, I’m gonna replay that one in my head so many times,” said Mullis, who is living in Midland, N.C. “Made all the right moves, and (Lowe) just was able to get it done. Can’t be mad, obviously with the way that Nashville went last year between me and him.

“So, glad we finished somewhat cleanly there. You know, you’ll take that, take the points.”

Parker White came in third in the No. 53 Chevrolet, with Malik Ray (No. 7 Chevrolet) and Zack Novak (No. 5 Chevrolet) rounding out the top five.

The series continues next Tuesday at a virtual Darlington (S.C.) Raceway.
