World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler is still waiting to become the world’s No. 1 dad.

With his wife, Meredith Scheffler, yet to go into labor with the couple’s first child, Scottie Scheffler is not in the field for next week’s $20 million signature event, the Wells Fargo Championship in Charlotte, N.C.

Scheffler, 27, is the only eligible player for the limited-field event who intends to sit out. The May 9-12 tournament is the final chance for PGA Tour players to tune up for the PGA Championship, set for next weekend in Louisville, Ky.

When Scheffler has played this season, he has bested the field. His past five starts have resulted in four firsts and a tie for second, with victories at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, The Players Championship, the Masters and the RBC Heritage — three signature events and one major, the second major of his career.

Scheffler’s worst showing this season was a tie for 17th at The American Express in La Quinta, Calif.
