Wrexham midfielder Andy Cannon’s knee injury is not as bad as coach Phil Parkinson initially feared, but there is also no timetable yet on his return.

Cannon, 27, was helped off the pitch in the second half of Wrexham’s 2-1 win over Mansfield Town in the first round of the FA Cup on Saturday. He was sent for an X-Ray, which came back negative for any major injuries.

“It’s not serious so we have had some good news with Andy,” Parkinson said, per The Leader. “He got a whack on the nerve on his leg, his whole leg went numb and obviously he was worried about it.

“There is an impact injury there but it is nowhere near as bad as we first feared.”

Cannon is completing his first year with Wrexham after signing with the club last December, coming over from Stockport County. He also has League One experience, appearing in 63 matches for Portsmouth from 2019-2020 before joining Championship side Hull City ahead of the 2021-22 season.

Cannon set up Sam Dalby’s opening goal against Mansfield Town, but now joins Wrexham’s lengthy injury list that includes Ryan Barnett, Eoghan O’Connell, Jordan Tunnicliffe, Aaron Hayden and Steven Fletcher.

Parkinson said that Fletcher won’t be rushed back following a procedure on his ailing knee.

“He is back in the building with the lads and we will do everything we can with him but when you have had an operation, there is a certain healing process which has to take place,” Parkinson said.

“As much as Steven is eager to get back out there, it is going to take time.”

Wrexham is riding a 10-match unbeaten streak across all competitions, including a 2-1 win over Port Vale in the final game of the EFL Trophy group on Tuesday.

The club also sits in third place in the League Two standings with an upcoming game against Gillingham on Saturday. Wrexham has 30 points and is behind only Stockport County (35) and rival Notts County (30), which has nine match wins to Wrexham’s eight.
