Halyna Hutchins was a young cinematographer who was fatally shot on the Western “Rust” in October, last year when the prop gun held by Alec Baldwin went off and a live round struck her. She died shortly after that from her wound and director Joel Souza, who was shot in the shoulder has recovered, since. The horrific accident took place as the gun was called a “cold” gun as it allegedly had no live ammunition but was actually “hot” as a live round shot and killed Halyna. Now, another tragedy has struck as her parents are stuck in Kyiv as the invasion of Ukraine by Russia continues.

Matthew Hutchins, who is Halyna’s husband, told TMZ that his late wife’s family is stuck in Kyiv. Her parents are unable to leave as the safe corridor is facing renewed attacks. Her mother is a nurse and is continuing to work in the hospital at which she has been staff, from over ten years. Halyna’s father has also volunteered to remain in Kyiv.

Halyna’s sister and her daughter have fled to Romania, according to news from a representative of Hutchins. Her sister and Halyna’s three-year old niece have reached the Romanian border and were waiting for evacuation.

Halyna’s husband Matthew, who has strong ties to the country, believes that there should be a “no-fly” zone imposed over Ukraine. According to the outlet, he also said that China should step up to enforce it, if NATO was unable to do so.

The report also said that Matthew believes that Chinese intervention would ensure that both sides stayed out of the sky and rockets would no longer be launched against the ground forces in Ukraine.

Matthew has also commended the bravery of the Ukrainians as they defend their homeland, condemned the Russians and asked for additional support for the refugees and military in Ukraine as well as diplomatic intervention, to maintain the sovereignty of Ukraine.

Matthew Hutchins has recently filed lawsuits against Alec Baldwin and others who were a part of the movie “Rust,” on whose set his wife Halyna Hutchins was fatally shot by actor Alec Baldwin. The actor was handed the antique Colt revolver by assistant director Dave Halls who called it a “cold” gun as it was reportedly checked by armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed.
