In-N-Out, the popular burger chain, is closing its doors in Oakland, California, in March due to a rise in crime in the neighborhood, according to a Sunday statement. This restaurant has been in operation for almost two decades but is now shuttering as customers and associates face issues due to crime.
Associates from the Oakland location can accept severance packages or move to the locations of the restaurant in other nearby areas in California. In-N-Out, located at 8300 Oakport Street in Oakland, will turn down its shutters on March 24.
Chief Operating Officer Denny Warnick released a statement stating why the burger chain was closing its restaurant in Oakland, California. The report said the restaurant chain had decided to close the In-N-Out Burger location in Oakland “due to ongoing crime issues.”
The statement also noted that both their customers as well as their associates had been “regularly victimized” despite the company taking repeated steps to ensure safety and security and that there continued to be “car break-ins, property damage, theft, and armed robberies.”
Warnick also expressed gratitude to the local community and said that In-N-Out had been operating there for 18 years. He noted that although the location was both busy as well as profitable, the “safety and wellbeing” of their customers and associates was the company’s top priority” and that they did not want to request customers to visit or employees to work “in an unsafe environment.”
Warnick also expressed regret about the negative impact of the closure of the In-N-Out on customers, associates, and their families. Associates can transfer out or receive severance pay.
In-N-Out will continue to operate in the following Bay Area locations:
Alameda
San Francisco
Daly City
San Leandro
Pleasanton
Union City and
San Ramon.
Oakland In-N-Out is not the only food outlet to close down in this location. Late last year a Starbucks that was close by shuttered and Raising Cane only allows drive thru to stop car break-ins.
