According to the Spalding County Sheriff’s Office, Sydney Maughon, 18, Jeremy Munson, 18, and McKenzie Davenport, 19, have all been charged with malice murder, battery, and criminal trespass in connection with the shooting death of Johnathan Gilbert on July 3. The three teens denied bond for shooting a man who discovered them breaking into his home after confrontation over a lovers spat.
Allegedly, the three suspects went to Mr. Gilbert’s house with the intention of egging it. While the egging was going on, Mr. Gilbert became aware of what was going on and rushed outside to face the culprits.
After being shot, Johnathan, whose is also known by the name Tyler Lane, was discovered unresponsive in the middle of Dobbins Mill Road. He confronted the three teenagers who were egging his house when he came outside.
Back in their vehicle, the suspects fled. When Mr. Gilbert approached the automobile unarmed, Ms. Maughon allegedly reached for a revolver and shot him many times before the suspects fled the scene.
Mr. Gilbert’s body was in the center of the road when the police arrived. Following the death of a man during an egging prank, three teenagers in Georgia have been charged with felony murder.
Even though just one teenager pulled the shot, they would still face charges for allegedly conspiring and carrying out the act jointly, according to Spalding County Sheriff Darrell Dix. Sheriff Dix continued to say, “Because they all plotted and planned together and traveled to the location with the intent to commit a crime that led up to the murder together, they are all culpable just as if they had each pulled the trigger themselves,” he said. “They went to egg a house, the victim confronted them while they were doing it, he lost his life, and they drove off and left his body in the middle of the road. Together they bought that ticket; now, together, they can ride that ride.”
