As police in Idaho continue to investigate the mysterious murder of four University of Idaho students, they have received reports of a couple’s dead and skinned dog. The incident was reported just three miles from the four students’ home, where they were brutally slaughtered. Locals believe there is a link between the two attacks.

Buddy, a 12-year-old mini-Australian shepherd owned by Pam and Jim Colbert, was killed on Oct. 21, leaving only fur on his legs and face, according to reports. Pam stated that it appeared that a deer had been hunted. After being slashed on the neck, he was skinned. According to the story, a Latah County sheriff’s officer who photographed the dog’s remains established that the perpetrator was human.

Four students – Madison Mogen, Kaylee Goncalves, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin, were stabbed to death in their off-campus house about three miles away, about 23 days later. On Sunday, authorities said they still believe the attack was planned, but they don’t know where the killer or killers are. The murder weapon has yet to be discovered.

Authorities have not linked Buddy’s death to the horrible killings, but residents suspect a link between the two occurrences. According to the owners, Bud never left the yard, the killer took him. Jim discovered the remains of a rabbit with its scalp and ears slashed off near the couple’s home shortly before the dog died. He said that the head was sliced open, and its brain was visible.

When Buddy was discovered dead, the Colberts’ next-door neighbor, Clinton Hughes, put a note on Facebook. According to Hughes, this was not the act of any animal. He said he would be chambering all his firearms, and recommends everyone in North Moscow to do so.

Many students have gone home for Thanksgiving break and do not want to return, according to University of Idaho President Scott Green, who spoke at a press conference on Sunday. After the crime was detected, police initially stated that there was no threat to the community, but later reversed their position and warned residents to be cautious.
