Video of Shanquella Robinson Being Beaten Surfaces as Prosecutors Investigate Death

Video of a woman from Charlotte, North Carolina, who died last month while on a trip to Mexico with friends, has gone viral on social media. When the video showed her being battered, her family is demanding justice and the truth about her murder. Robinson was part of a party that flew from Charlotte to Cabo on October 28 and rented a property to celebrate a friend’s birthday, but he was discovered dead the next day.

The 25-year-old, who managed a popular hair braiding business and an online boutique, was discovered dead in her hotel room on Oct. 29 while on vacation in San José del Cabo with friends. Local authorities stated Wednesday that they are still investigating her death.

The FBI in Charlotte confirmed that they have been in contact with Robinson’s family and are aware of the footage that has been making the rounds online. Robinson’s distraught family said they knew her companions were lying about the cause of death after she died abruptly in Mexico of a severed spine and fractured neck.

They said they ‘dropped to their knees’ after learning of her death and described the video of her violent beating as ‘sickening.’ Robinson’s mother, Salamondra Robinson, informed news reporters that her daughter’s friends first claimed she died of alcohol poisoning. However, Shanquella Robinson died as a result of a serious spinal cord injury and atlas luxation, according to the death certificate.

Prosecutors in Baja California Sur said on Wednesday that they are continuing to collect evidence and investigate the circumstances surrounding the death at the beach club property. A video that claimed to show Robinson getting thrashed in a hotel room surfaced recently. Robinson is knocked to the ground after being punched in the head several times. “Can you at least fight back?” says the individual filming the footage. People on social media quickly demanded justice for the 25-year-old lady.

Mexican authorities are investigating Robinson’s death as femicide, which is the term used in the region to describe the intentional killing of a woman. If they discover that the killing was not motivated by gender, they will reclassify it as murder.
