Walmart, the nation’s largest retailer, is adding yet another important feature for its customers. It has expanded its partnership with Affirm, a buy now pay later (BNPL) provider. On Tuesday, Affirm announced that its pay-over-time options are to be added to self-checkout kiosks that are available at Walmart stores across the nation. Affirm saw an over 15 percent increase in stock price after the announcement.
In a press release on December 19, Affirm said that it had expanded its services with Walmart and that over 4,500 stores across the U.S. with self-checkout kiosks will be able to use its payment network. It also said that its pay over time with Affirm will also be available at Walmart Vision and Auto Centers.
Pat Suh, who is the SVP of Revenue at Affirm, said that the expansion of their partnership with Walmart and their service of “bringing Affirm’s transparent monthly pay-over-time options” to self-checkout kiosks of Walmart in the U.S. would help additional consumers to purchase more items in the holiday season as well as in the future.

Walmart’s partnership with Affirm allows its customers to buy goods online as well as in-store in Walmart by pre-applying for credit. Then consumers show the barcode to a sales associate at the checkout. It has been available since 2019 on its website in the U.S. as well as at 4,000 Walmart Supercenters.
The new expansion between Affirm and Walmart announced on Tuesday says that customers will now be able to scan the barcode at self-checkout kiosks in Walmart stores.
Earlier, an Affirm spokesperson had told Reuters that those who buy $144 of products from Walmart, except groceries, were allowed to divide payments over three months to two years using Affirm. The buy now pay later company would provide finance up to a maximum of $4,000.
