Celebrity Meghan Markle was reportedly “disappointed” to learn that Prince Harry had very little money when they started dating. Royal author Tom Bower, who has reportedly characterized the former Suits actress as “money-obsessed”, has claimed Meghan Markle was not very happy to know about Prince Harry’s “very little money.”

Bower, who wrote the book “Revenge: Meghan, Harry, and the War Between the Windsors” last year, stated in an interview released in the Daily Mail on Monday. According to him, Meghan was surprised and disappointed to learn that Prince Harry was not so well-to-do. He went on to say that she had envisaged “he would be worth hundreds of millions, if not billions, and she is having to make up for it now.” The author also said that the Duchess of Sussex “wants to ride in the big Cadillacs” and “take private jets on command,” but was unaware that she would not have easy access to these comforts.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle received the majority of their financial support from King Charles’ Duchy of Cornwall estate while they were still top working royals. The couple, when they declared they would retire as working royals in 2020, released a statement that they wanted to work to achieve financial independence. Months later, they struck a $100 million deal with Netflix, which included Live to Lead, a six-part documentary

For the contentious tell-all novel Spare, which was a success, Harry is said to have gotten an advance of $20 million. A $30 million deal was also signed with Spotify to create content, including the podcast Archetypes with Meghan. The pair has come under fire for allegedly “cashing in” on their allegations against the royal family. On the other hand, they have been praised for being candid about the British royal family.

In a March 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, Prince Harry revealed that he had to use his inheritance when the couple stepped back as British royal family. It is said that Harry received a £20 million inheritance from Princess Diana, who passed away when he was only 12 years old. Additionally, the Queen Mother gave him up to £7 million.

In another part of the conversation, Tom asserted that the presence of the celebrity couple at the coronation could ‘ruin’ the event and ‘overshadow’ King Charles. Despite the backlash, it is anticipated that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will receive an invitation to the Coronation on May 6.
