On Saturday night, a group of Venezuelan immigrants attacked New York Police Department (NYPD) officers in Times Square, New York City. Police are searching for four suspects who remain at large. The Immigrant five suspects who were arrested were charged with felony assault. They were released after a court appearance; the next court date is March.
Surveillance video shows police trying to disperse a chaotic crowd. The video was taken in front of a migrant shelter located at 220 West 42nd St. The second clip shows police trying to take a person into custody, following which they get attacked.
A group of people kick and punch officers, including a lieutenant from the Midtown South Precinct. One of them suffered a face laceration, while the other had injuries to one side of his body. The officers were treated at the scene. They have not been identified.
Police arrested five suspects, one of whom was arrested on Monday night. Four other suspects involved in the incident fled the scene. Police are asking for help from the public to find these four suspects. Police also say that the suspects are migrants from various shelters across New York City.

The Police Benevolent Association president released a statement that said that the attacks on police were becoming an “epidemic” and that “revolving door justice” was the reason for the increase in attacks.
President Patrick Hendry also said it was “impossible for police officers to deal effectively with crime and disorder if the justice department can’t or won’t protect us while we do that work.”
One of the immigrants who was released was Yorman Reveron. The 24-year-old suspect already faces two open cases for assault and robbery in Manhattan, according to law enforcement sources. One incident occurred in Nordstrom in Union Square, while the other occurred at Macy’s in Herald Square.
