The US Department of Justice reported that a 33-year-old Francisco Severo Torres from Leominster, Massachusetts man was detained and charged after reportedly trying to open an emergency exit door on a United Airlines aircraft from Los Angeles to Boston and then attempting to stab a flight attendant in the neck.
A Leominster, Massachusetts man has been detained and charged with attempted murder after reportedly trying to stab a flight attendant in the neck while traveling on a United Airlines flight from Los Angeles to Boston, according to a statement from the US Department of Justice.
Court records state that the flight attendant advised the captain that they thought Torres presented a threat to the plane and that the captain should make a quick landing. Soon after, two flight attendants were allegedly waiting in the aisle as Torres walked toward the starboard side entrance.

The flight landed safely and was met by law enforcement. Torres was seen by a flight steward mouthing something that he was unable to hear. Then, according to reports, he thrust at one of the flight attendants while stabbing her three times in the neck region with a broken metal spoon.
Torres was then tackled by passengers and restrained with help from the flight staff. As soon as the plane touched down in Boston, Torres was arrested. Torres is alleged to have inquired about the location of the door handle in the safety card from a different passenger during later interviews with passengers who were on board the aircraft.
